Choosing a DJ

You should evaluate your perspective DJ/MC with the same diligence you use for your potential venue. This person can truly be the difference between a good wedding and a great one.

Here are some of the questions Paul recommends you ask when comparing DJs. His answers are included below:

Q: Do you offer a written contract?
A: Yes, Paul does. This ensures your date and the fee.

Q: Who will the DJ be at our wedding?
A: Paul is the Owner of Escape Entertainment and will be your DJ/MC/Event Coordinator.

Q: What do you do outside of the music?
A: DJ’ing represents about 15% of what Paul does at your event. He is also the MC and your event coordinator. Please go to the “Services Provided” section of this website for more detailed information.

Q: Will you play the music we want?
A: During your planning sessions with Paul, you will discuss which songs you want and don’t want on your music list. He will give you recommendations based on your personality, style and event. In the end, you work together as a team to come up with the ideal playlist, which can be revised even at the event.

Q: Will you take requests the day of the wedding?
A: Yes, as long as it is within the guidelines that you have set forth in your planning sessions.

Q: How many weddings have you performed at?
A: Paul have done over 800 events since 1993.

Q: Will you be the Master of Ceremonies?

Q: What will you wear?
A: Paul is always dressed in suit attire, unless otherwise specified.

Q: How often can we meet with you?
A: Paul offers unlimited planning sessions before your event.

Q: How accessible are you to us?
A: You can call or email Paul anytime. He always responds promptly.

Q: Are you insured?
A: Yes, he carries liability insurance for $1,000,000.

Q: Do you have references?
A: Paul has many references from former clients as well as professional vendors, such as wedding planners, photographers and special event managers from various venues. He will give you a list and you can call as many of them as you want.

Q: Can you manage a large event?
A: Paul has performed at events ranging from 50-500 people.

Q: Have you worked in this particular venue before?
A: Given the extent of his experience in this area, Paul has worked with virtually every venue. You can discuss your specific venue with him when you meet.

Q: Do you take breaks?
A: Paul does not take planned breaks or consume alcohol. He is always available during your event.

Q: Do you smoke?
A: No.

Q: When do you get to the event?
A: Paul usually arrives 2 hours prior to the start of your event.

Q: Do you require a meal?
A: No, it's appreciated, but not required.

Q: Will you work with my other vendors that day?
A: Yes, Paul will keep your photographer, caterer and any other vendor you hired aware of your timeline for the day.
